Deputies: 44-year-old man robs 2 Bonita Springs stores in 2 days

A Bonita Springs man is accused of robbing two stores in two days.

A robbery was reported Monday at 9:15 a.m. at Hallmark, 26831 South U.S. 41. Lee deputies say William J. Schiller, 44, entered the store and struck up a conversation with an employee behind the counter. He then said he had a gun and wanted money, according to the arrest report.

Schiller, unsuccessful at opening the register, drove off in a beige Mitsubishi Montero Sport SUV. Witnesses were able to give deputies the tag number, which came back registered to a trailer in Schiller's name. Deputies confronted Schiller at his residence on the of the 26600 block of Rosewood Pointe Drive. Witnesses later identified Schiller and the SUV.

Deputies say Schiller later admitted to robbing a Subway at 24830 South U.S. 41 on Sunday around 6 p.m.

According to arrest reports, Schiller entered the Subway and ordered a sandwich before threatening an employee that he had a gun and wanted money from the register. The Subway gave him the money, the amount of which was not disclosed in reports. Detectives were able to retrieve video surveillance of the incident.

In both cases, Schiller didn't have a weapon.

Schiller is facing charges of two counts of robbery without a firearm or weapon.

I thought that he could be charged for robbery w/ a weapon if he led the victims to believe that he had one.
