Detectives said electricity at the residence was being diverted to power the grow operation.

A 57-year-old Miami man was arrested Tuesday after Collier County sheriff’s deputies found a grow house containing marijuana worth an estimated quarter-million dollars in Golden Gate Estates.

Fernando Lopez Guardado is the accused caretaker of the grow house, Sheriff’s Office officials said. He was taken to the Naples Jail Center, where he faces charges of marijuana trafficking and possession of narcotic paraphernalia.

Acting on a search warrant, detectives went into a house at 2520 Desoto Blvd. around 7 a.m., finding 69 marijuana plants in a bedroom, reports said. A scale and 68 grams of marijuana were found in the kitchen and a loaded shotgun and a loaded 9mm assault rifle were found elsewhere in the house, authorities said.

In the backyard, detectives found a building with 18 more marijuana plants, high-intensity light bulbs, transformers, Mylar insulation and high-grade fertilizers, reports said.

In all, the marijuana plants were valued at $261,000 and the indoor grow equipment at about $20,000, according to authorities. Guardado was arrested after he was found in the master bedroom, they said.

How much money does collier county spend each year on pot, finding it, arrests and all that goes with it. I feel it should be legalized and taxed. Imagine if they just discovered whiskey and they tested how it affected us, do you think it would ever have been legalized?? Just asking a question that I always wondered about. Fact: I don't smoke pot or drink booze just tired of all the money the government spends on this.

About Willie Nelson. Would he be deported too? I don't think so.

Legalize, regulate and tax.

The thought of not regulating tobacco or alcohol seems unfathomable, why don't we regulate the marijuana industry?

Just a few questions. What responsibility does the homeowner have in these growhouses? This house is homesteaded by another person, who also owns another house in the estates. Will they check on the other home? Are charges brought against the homeowners?

Potsmokers are harmless, but complacent. The way I see it, their complacency levels out some of the potential competition in the business world, while non-smokers rise to the top and take advantage of the complacency. How would you feel if someone high on ANY DRUG is driving and hits and kills a family member?

I'd feel about the same as if they were texting on their cell phone when it happened, honestly. Which is legal, by the way.

We get it, you don't like people who drink or smoke pot. You don't need to be ignorant about it, though.

Do you seriously think that the number of people smoking pot would change if it were legalized? Further, do you seriously think that the people that puff up arent already on the roads driving?
Finally, do you seriously think that DUI wouldnt apply for those caught Driving Under the Influence?

You have your opnion as I have mine. I do believe if made legal there would be more use. Again you feel differently. ENJOY. and by the way I do believe you should be pulled over if you are texting while driving.

Has nothing to do with me LIKING, drug users. It has to do with society and safety.

Deport this indoor gardener!

This country is going to POT due to boarder jumpers!

Why do these ignorant morons try to grow and harvest marijuana for profit? Why don't they grow and harvest mushrooms for Psilocybin? Wouldn't it be easier to grow and conceal an indoor mushroom farm? These are probably more valuable on the street to in smaller quantities.

Why is growing numerous 6-foot bushes indoors the illegal trade of choice for drug dealers?

Making what laws tougher? There are already laws in place for everything you have brought up! People are going to do what they want, it doesn't mean I agree with it.

pipito writes:

Cubans can be deported if they have 3 felonies before they become citizens. Most of the ones they catch growing weed are fresh from cuba and have been contracted to do this work before they came here, so they cant snitch out anyone even if they wanted. they do the time and many do get deported. Arresting this guy does little to stop the real problem. Most of these guys dont even know what they are getting into, they think it is a free ride to america, when they find out what they have to do to pay back the ride it is too late to change your mind. But recently cubans who have been here a long time can take up a growhouse regardless, Cubans dont snitch and are used to doing crime as a casual thing so it is the safest way to do this work.

Not willing to grow it? they kill your entire familly here and the ones in Cuba. Who is behind it? Maybe one guy, maybe many? Maybe a cuban? Maybe a mexican? I can assure you most cubans on the street know more then the average detective!

pipito writes:

A Cuban can be deported under many situations.
1. if you dont do they paperwork to become a resident, once your here for six months it is too late t try to fix your legal status.
2. If you have 3 felonies while your a resident before becoming a citizen.
3. If you owe alot of money to the IRS
4. If you are a terroist
5. If you have a seroius felony.

ONLY if you are a resident, after becoming a citizen it is hard to get deported.
