Fewer passengers passed through Southwest Florida International Airport in March, compared to the previous year.
The number of passengers — just over 1 million last month — dropped by 4.6 percent and year-to-date passenger traffic is down 3.1 percent compared to 2011, the Lee County Port Authority said in a news release Monday.
Delta carried the most passengers, 230,067, in March, followed by AirTran (170,405), Southwest (127,056), JetBlue (109,686) and US Airways (109,135).
Southwest Florida International Airport had 9,968 aircraft movements (takeoffs and landings), a decrease of 6 percent compared to March 2011. The airport served more than 7.5 million passengers in 2011 and is one of the top 50 U.S. airports for passenger traffic.
